TGN Grid scope: TGN Basic, BESS (Pixii 100 kW / 100 kWh)
Our client is located high in the mountains and therefore faced major challenges with energy supply to their remote facility. Due to limited grid capacity and unstable supply (especially during peak seasons), traditional solutions such as building and expanding power lines are not only very expensive, but can also take several years to build. To ensure reliable operations and reduce peak power demand, a smarter, more flexible solution was needed.
The Solution
We installed a battery energy storage system, fully integrated with TGNS FlexControl. This technology allows for peak shaving and load shifting, optimizing the use of stored energy throughout the day and across seasons. The battery system supports the facility during high-demand periods and reduces the need for grid upgrades. Offering a cost-effective alternative to building new power infrastructure.
In addition, the system enables the client to participate in energy markets, including flexibility services coordinated through providers like Statkraft. This generates additional value from their energy assets.
Results and Benefits
- Avoided costly grid expansion – the battery system eliminates the need to upgrade or oversize the grid connection.
- Smoothed peak demand – even though total consumption remains the same, the energy company sees a more balanced and manageable load profile.
- Optimized seasonal performance – the system adapts to seasonal variations in demand and supply.
- Increased flexibility and resilience – providing both operational stability and market participation opportunities.
Future Outlook
By choosing battery storage over costly grid upgrades, the client has made a smart and cost-effective energy investment. The system helps reduce electricity bills, avoids expensive peak charges, and ensures more efficient energy use. This solution delivers long-term savings while supporting a stable and reliable power supply in a challenging location.
