TGN Grid scope: TGN Industry, Emergency Power System (EPS), BESS (Hitachi Energy 1,000 kW / 1,100 kWh)
Our client, Rørosmeieriet (Røros Dairy), Norway’s biggest organic dairy faced challenges with high peak power demands and rising electricity costs as well as several power outages per year, something that stopped production and became very expensive. To reduce these costs and promote their leadword: sustainability, energy optimization was the way to go.
The Solution
We installed a 1 MW / 1,1 mWh battery system from Hitachi integrated with TGNS FlexControl, which optimizes the use of stored energy in real time. The system was seamlessly integrated with the client’s existing grid, enabling both load balancing and backup power with only 50 milliseconds from detection to stable operating conditions.
Results and Benefits
Since the installation, the client has been able to reduce peak loads by up to 25%, resulting in significant savings on electricity bills. The battery system also contributes to more stable operations and increased flexibility for future energy solutions.
Future Outlook
This project is an important step in the client’s strategy to reduce their carbon footprint and prepare for a future with a higher share of renewable energy. The system will also be ready for blackstart/gridforming late 2025/early 2026.
